Why Family Learning of Maths
through Digital Tools
FAMILIES COUNT will have a direct impact on target beneficiaries, improving their
competencies in maths and in encouraging their participation and engagement in the school systems. It
will improve the family learning knowledge and pedagogical methods used to teach maths to students and
parents from disadvantaged families. The project will also improve the digital skills of both groups of
users and beneficiaries. The long-term impact envisaged is to strengthen the school systems in Europe
and the UK and their collaboration with families and other stakeholders with new forms of tackling early
school leaving and disadvantage.
Family Learning methods can strengthen parental participation
and engagement with the school system. New digital technologies on children’s mathematical competences
can be exploited for new forms of teaching and learning (EC, 2018). Achieving effective collaboration
with the school can be decisive for disadvantaged families, specifically those parents living in urban
environments with low incomes and are immigrants or ethnic minorities facing greater barriers. (EC,
2016).
