OECD Education Working Papers- NUMERACY PRACTICES AND NUMERACY SKILLS AMONG ADULTS
The OECD’s Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC),following on from the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS) and the Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey (ALL),has highlighted the critical role of cognitive skills,including numeracy skills,in individuals’ active participation in modern society. The paper identifies formative assessment,e-learning,and contextualisation and embedding (especially in the workplace and family context) as effective approaches to basic skills teaching.
